All About That Face - Movember 2014

Had to share this great parody of 'All About That Bass', called 'All About That Face'! Totally fits perfect for Movember!

Saturday, 1 November 2014

It's all about Movember

Today is November 1st and it is the starting of Movember!

Different moustache button options.
For those of you who don't know what Movember is, its a campaign to raise awareness for Men's Health whether it be cancer or mental health.

"Movember’s about bringing back the moustache, having fun and doing good, and changing the face of men’s health. Mo Bros take action by signing up and growing a sweet moustache for the 30 days of Movember." -Movember Canada

If you've been to my Etsy store you'll see I have a ton of products and one of them being moustache buttons! I thought these would be a great addition for the MoSistas (Ladies who support Movember but don't grow the 'stache), so I opted to donate 30% of my moustache button sales back to Movember. I usually start in October and run through till the end of November. Last year I raised a whopping $190.00 and the year prior a modest $41.00.

I'm back at this year with a goal of $250! But I've added the option of getting keychains and magnets instead of just pinback buttons-and still donating 30% right back to Movember.

If you'd like to support Movember with me you can donate direction to my MoSpace or just buy a button on my Etsy shop.

How we make 2.25" Pinback Buttons

Ever wonder how we make those larger buttons? Well here is how!

I'm not a very good gardener, but I try!

Story Time: My Weedy Garden

Kale-I hope, amongst the weeds
In my backyard there is an area cordoned off with a white fence, the perfect spot to have a garden. So this year being my first spring/summer in this house I decided to go for it and plant a vegetable garden. I was mostly mad about the fact that bell peppers (a staple in our diet) have become $3.99 lb or higher.

So I ordered a whole selection of quality seeds from Cubits, a local Canadian heirloom seed company. They offer free shipping and I had a coupon code for 10% off, which I am sharing with you: THANKS

In case you are aware I am not a gardener-tried to grow carrots once when I was a kid and some raccoons ate them. So I took the effort to clear out the back garden area, as best I could-pulling weeds is a ridiculous amount of work. I ended up with a good portion de-weeded and usable. And intended to continue the rest, then the rain and sunlight came and now my garden area is a giant weed nest. But those spots that I cleared are being used for plants anyway!
Green onion for sure!
Amongst the weeds...

I started the plants inside a few weeks ahead of the planting schedule. I started with the bell peppers, and killed them when I transplanted them. Thank goodness I'm not a doctor. But I did manage to get the basil, red kale, tomato's and carrots to sprout and are currently growing.

The kale, basil and carrots are all together with no sense of order or spacing because I put the seed packages upside down in my seed container. And I couldn't figure out what anything was what at the point. For a lark I planted them all just to see what would grow. I got basil and it rocks!

I also started taking my trimmings, ends of leaks & green onions and planted them. The green onions made it!

Tomato plants!
My tomato's are growing nice and I really can't wait for them to start producing! Don't mind all that brown stuff, it is coffee grounds. I read somewhere that they are helpful for mulching/nutrients and my work has a fancy coffee machine that spits them out like nothing.

Next year I plan to completely dig up everything in this back little fence area, by employing manual label of my loving boyfriend. And hopefully next year get more seeds and start a proper organised looking garden.

Part 2: Improved Vendor Tables!

Improving my Vendor Table - Part 2

Recently I was a vendor at the Bloomin' Earth Festival in Kitchener, ON. The event was held indoors due to the cold weather, but it went really well. Lots of people showed up, browsed all the different tables and hung out for a lovely Belly Dancer and live music!!

As I discussed in my last post my vendor tables leave a lot to be desired. They were very busy, and it was difficult to really see what I was selling. So I made it my mission to improve my table setups, and I started at the local Fabric Land to get some new table clothes.

Being a firm believer in deals and getting lots of bang for your buck, I headed straight to the clearance section. I found some really nice neutral table clothes and then my friend Crycket suggested I use my logo's colours instead.

The hunt was on! I managed to find a brown and turquoise fabric that were slightly darker than my logo colours, but as you can see they looked really nice and professional once paired together. I also made sure to use my new display units and packaging to help display all my buttons.

We ended up needing another table as my table cloth was massive, we shared it with out neighbours Homespun by Shannon and Green Sketch. Originally I wanted to have the cloth drape to the floor but this worked out really well.

I also added a banner to my vendor show arsenal, prior to this event I had a small banner that I would pin to the front of the table. This banner was much larger, stood out and really shows off what I do and my sleek design skills!

There are lots of different things you can do with your vendor tables, it really depends on what you are selling and your style. I think this is a big improvement from what I had before, it makes it more branded and in future I hope to figure out a unique way to get more 'height' from my tables. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
